Patient information sheet before IPL therapy
Dear patient!
You are scheduled for IPL therapy. At our center, the procedure is performed using the latest generation IPL-xenon device, the only device approved for this procedure in ophthalmology, OptiLight by Lumenis in Ukraine.
7–14 days before the procedure:
- Avoid sun exposure or tanning beds to prevent tanning (high risk of pigmentation after IPL).
- Do not use retinoids, acid peels, or bleaching creams in the area around the eyes.
- Do not undergo any cosmetic procedures on the face (laser, chemical peels, etc.).
On the day of the procedure:
- Cleanse the skin of the face (no makeup, creams, or oils).
- Avoid wearing contact lenses before the procedure.
- You may take an antihistamine beforehand if you are prone to allergic reactions (as recommended by your doctor).
IPL therapy is contraindicated during pregnancy, breastfeeding, active skin infections, epilepsy, and general diseases in the stage of decompensation.

You must bring dark glasses with you.
Immediately after the procedure:
- There may be slight redness or swelling — this is normal and will disappear within a few hours.
- If necessary, you can apply a cool compress (but not ice directly to the skin!).
- Do not apply makeup to the area around the eyes.
- Avoid rubbing your eyelids or using harsh products.
- Do not wear contact lenses if your eyelids are irritated.
- Be sure to apply SPF 30+ sunscreen to your face, even if the procedure was only performed on your eyelids (UV rays can cause pigmentation).
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for 1–2 weeks.
- A soothing cream (e.g., with panthenol) may be used as recommended by your doctor.
- Eye drops or other products may be prescribed to support the surface of the eye.
- Do not visit saunas, baths, or take hot baths for several days.
