New WaveLight PlusPersonalised precision
Latest-generation laser vision correction on 2027 equipment.
Before surgery, the InnovEyes Sightmap device measures the eye’s entire optical system — from the cornea to the retina. From this data, the software builds a laser profile calculated for you alone, and the WaveLight EX500 excimer laser transfers it onto the cornea.
- myopia
- myopia with astigmatism
- halos and glare at night
Whether the method is right for you is decided by the doctor after a full examination.

about the technology
Every eye bends light in its own way
Glasses correct only two parameters — sphere and cylinder. But the image on the retina is formed by the eye’s entire optics: both surfaces of the cornea, its thickness, the position of the lens, and the length of the eye. Small deviations in each of these links cause blur that is especially noticeable at dusk.
Standard laser correction programs rely on the prescription and the shape of the front surface of the cornea, and cover the rest with averaged adjustments. Instead of average values, WaveLight Plus uses real measurements of your eye.
Glasses prescription + the same adjustments for everyone.
Measurements of your own eye and a laser profile created to match them.
how it works
From scan to clear vision in three stages
- 01
Scanning
In a single examination, InnovEyes Sightmap takes three measurements: aberrometry (how light is distorted inside the eye), corneal tomography and biometry — the length and depth of the eye. The examination is contact-free and painless.
- 02
Digital model
The software turns the measurements into a three-dimensional model of the eye and “passes” rays of light through it. This shows exactly where the focus blurs and calculates how much corneal tissue needs to be reshaped, and at which point.
- 03
Correction
The finished plan is sent to the WaveLight EX500 excimer laser. After anaesthetic drops, the laser works for just a few minutes, while the tracking system follows the eye’s movements — every pulse lands on its calculated point.

what the device sees
How much eye data goes into the calculation
The more real measurements in the correction plan, the more precisely the laser reshapes the cornea specifically for you.

WaveLight Plus or SMILE
How WaveLight Plus differs from SMILE
SMILE calculates the correction using a standard profile — based only on the sphere and cylinder from your prescription. WaveLight Plus first studies the entire optics of your eye and only then builds the laser plan around it.
Personalisation
SMILEThe same calculation principle for everyone: only the glasses prescription is taken into account.
New WaveLight PlusThe plan is built on a 3D model of your own eye: cornea, lens, length of the eye, wavefront.
Night vision
SMILEHigher-order aberrations are not corrected — halos and glare from headlights may remain.
New WaveLight PlusCorrects higher-order aberrations, so vision is sharper at dusk and behind the wheel.
Centration
SMILEThe surgeon centres the treatment manually; there is no active eye tracking.
New WaveLight PlusThe laser follows eye movements in real time and accounts for its rotation — each pulse lands on its calculated point.
Recovery
SMILEVisual sharpness may keep improving for anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
New WaveLight PlusMost patients see clearly as early as the next day.
Result
SMILEThe goal is vision “as good as with glasses”.
New WaveLight Plus98.1% of eyes see 20/20 (1.0) or better, and many see more sharply than they did with glasses*.
This is a general comparison. The doctor determines which method suits you after the diagnostic exam.

what it means for you
Benefits for the patient
Sharpness at dusk
Correcting aberrations reduces halos and glare — something you notice if you drive in the evening.
Predictable result
A calculation based on real measurements reduces the risk of under- or overcorrection.
Quick start
Most patients see noticeably better as early as the day after correction.
Gentle plan
The calculation takes corneal thickness into account to preserve a safe margin of tissue.
doctors and equipment
Certified doctors and official Alcon equipment
The precision of correction depends on the surgeon’s experience and on well-maintained equipment. We have taken care of both in advance.
Specialist training and certificates
The surgeons who perform WaveLight Plus correction have been trained by clinical specialists from Alcon — the manufacturer — and have received certificates to work with this technology.
Official Alcon equipment
The InnovEyes Sightmap diagnostic device and the WaveLight EX500 excimer laser were supplied through official channels. They are serviced by certified Alcon engineers, so the system works with the precision built in by the manufacturer.
Doctors of the Refractive Surgery Department
When the doctor may recommend WaveLight Plus
- myopia (short-sightedness), including with astigmatism;
- complaints of halos, glare or “blurry” vision in the evening;
- a wish for the most personalised correction plan possible;
- work or hobbies where clear vision at dusk and behind the wheel matters.
When the doctor will suggest a different method
- a cornea that is too thin, or keratoconus;
- eye inflammation, pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- certain systemic diseases;
- vision that has not yet stabilised.
The doctor makes the final decision after the diagnostic exam — and if WaveLight Plus is not right for you, will recommend another method.
questions
Frequently asked questions about WaveLight Plus
How is WaveLight Plus different from standard laser vision correction?
A standard program calculates the correction from your glasses prescription and the shape of the front surface of the cornea, and fills in the rest with averaged adjustments. WaveLight Plus first measures the entire optics of your eye — both corneal surfaces, the lens, the length of the eye and light distortions — and builds a plan around exactly these measurements.
Does it hurt?
No. Before correction, the eye is numbed with anaesthetic drops. While the laser is working, most patients feel only light pressure.
How long does the procedure take?
The laser works for just a few minutes per eye. You will be told how long the whole visit, including preparation, will take when you book.
When will I start seeing well?
Most patients see noticeably better as early as the next day. Vision fully stabilises over several weeks — the doctor monitors this at follow-up visits.
Does the method correct astigmatism?
Yes, WaveLight Plus is designed for myopia, including myopia combined with astigmatism. The doctor will tell you whether it suits you after the diagnostic exam.
How much does WaveLight Plus correction cost?
The cost depends on your indications and is calculated after the diagnostic exam. Current prices for laser vision correction are listed in the clinic’s price list. Go to prices →
How should I prepare for the diagnostic exam?
If you wear contact lenses, you need to stop wearing them in advance so that the cornea can return to its natural shape. The administrator will tell you how many days beforehand when you book.
