On 30–31 October 2026, the first Junior Ophthalmology Summit took place in Lviv. The summit was founded with the support of Professor Oksana Vitovska, Medical Director of Deutsche Augenklinik.
About 250 young ophthalmologists from all regions of Ukraine came to Lviv. Over two days they worked through difficult clinical cases and compared how different clinics treat the same eye diseases.

Our doctors who spoke at the summit
- Oksana Vitovska, MD, PhD, DSc, Professor, Honoured Doctor of Ukraine, Medical Director and scientific consultant of Deutsche Augenklinik, head of the All-Ukrainian Alliance of Ophthalmologists.
- Vira Vasiuta, MD, DSc, senior researcher, neuro-ophthalmologist of the highest category.
- Inesa Tymoshenko, ophthalmologist at Deutsche Augenklinik.

Valentyna Kyryk, ophthalmologist at the British Ophthalmological Centre, also gave a talk.
How the summit went
Participants brought their own unusual cases and worked out the diagnosis and treatment plan together. The programme included case marathons, discussions and hands-on master classes. A separate part was devoted to medical errors, doubts and the responsibility a young doctor faces in the first years of practice.

The organisers plan the summit as an annual event for young ophthalmologists.
